The 2016 LEA Quiz Bowl is here.  Thanks for the sponsorships of Duke University's Africa Initiative and UNC Charlotte; K-12 students in North Carolina will be competing during the International Education Week. 

We are inviting students in 4th through 12th grades to participate and will appreciate educators and guardians to encourage and support this effort.

  •  Admission to the quiz competition is free.  
  • We have prizes for winners and participants, courtesy of our sponsors.
  • Light refreshments will be served. 
  • Students who are interested in participating may do so at one of the two locations - that is, UNC Charlotte or Duke University campus.

On Saturday December 12th, 2015 NC k-12 students met at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte - Cone University Center to compete for the 2015 Let's Explore Africa Quiz Bowl.  The juniors from North Davidson High School, Winston Salem, NC faced off with their seniors.  At the end of the competition, Josh Grubb and Isabella Wright answered the most questions correctly and took first place and championship trophy. Morgan Warrick and Braxton Zangston-Chapman placed second.  

For the seventh through ninth grade category, seventh graders from Alexander Graham Middle School, Charlotte, NC faced off. At the end of the competition, Liam Hinson dominated the competition with commanding lead in answering most of the questions. Ailish Coughlin came in second and Hannah Sima took third place. Overall, AG took the championship trophy!

Thanks to coaches, Ms. Kyle Kester, Mrs. Sarah Piatkowski, and Ms. Dana Hedgepeth for preparing these students well.  Appreciations to Ms. Laura Bauer of South Charlotte Middle School for her assistance during the event, and the UNC dance students.  Special thanks to the parents for coming along to cheer their students on.  Principals, we appreciate your encouraging activities such as this and expanding your students' knowledge in global education.  Kudos to our sponsors - UNC Charlotte, Trader Joe's, Pcho Pictures, Krispy Kreme, and local radio stations!
